Peabo
A Rowton needs his hotdogs
April 2009
Peabo was my first venture into a real 3D short. It was conceived in Nicoletta Adamo-Villani's Motion for Computer Animation course at Purdue University. Pan Pan Wen, Bridger Deiman, and I formed The Group of Doom! and began writing synopsi the first day of class. I thought it would be funny to show a big dumb monster innocently destroying a city because he wanted to eat a vendor's hotdogs. The idea developed and Pan drew excellent concept art as I began to write the treatment and draw storyboards. Unfortunately that would be all Pan's massive artistic talent would be able to contribute because shortly after the project started both Pan and Bridger stopped outputting content due to personal conflicts. For that reason, everyting you see in Peabo was done by myself save the modeling of the hotdog cart over 115 days.

Milt Kahl did not actually animate my short, it was me. You'll notice some scaling issues with Peabo. Sometimes he is taller than the buildings and other times he can curl up and lay in the street. Because of logistical difficulties and the lack of time, the scene where Peabo courageously saves a herd of pedestrians from being run over had to be scrapped. So did the reporter's cut scenes as we did not have enough money in the budget to hire local television news anchor Jeff Smith.
