This Crazy Colorado Climate
May 12, 2010
I was not joking when I said I as not used to this Colorado climate, it snowed today! It is May! I am out of school! My office mate Sean had to work from home because he lives up in the mountains and he got it even worse than the majority of Boulder. Look at the picture to the right and compare it with the same picture from my previous post. I took them both from the same location within forty-eight hours and sixty degrees Fahrenheit.
Another attribute of Boulder that I am getting used to is the fact that it is impossible to sleep in, I love it! I have woken up every morning at six thirty without any effort and even when I am ultra tired the night before. The sun rays shoot into my bedroom perfectly in the morning to ease me awake and it is beautiful.
I met my third roommate yesterday in an interesting way. Matt had been home for Mother's Day, but yesterday morning I woke up to see him sleeping in the bed across the way. Naturally it was six in the morning and I remember saying, "Hey Matt!" I think I yelled it in the short delirium where I don't know if I am dreaming or am awake right before I come out of sleeping. Sorry to all of my roommates who may or may not have heard me. I know they would not mind though. Brandilyn, Evan, and Matt are some of the nicest people I have ever met. They welcomed me with warm hugs and the freedom to rummage around the house for anything I'd like. That includes the constant stock of wine and all organic foods. Of course I'll buy groceries to replenish the pantry when the weather clears up, but it is worth noting that the hospitality bestowed upon me has been exceptional and I am so grateful. Even the regulars who are not official tenants are awesome. Brandilyn's boyfriend Mike is super nice and Evan's boyfriend Sam is the first person I met in Boulder. He was so nice when I told him I clogged the toilet after knowing him for thirty minutes. The people in Boulder are beautiful and I could live here for that reason alone. I could be miserable at home when I leave work, but that is impossible to imagine. Hopefully we will all keep in touch after the lease ends July 31st.
Today at work I continued on my Flash animation. That thing is near perfection. If I work on it even more then each element is going to be animated with individual frames. I already am on that path. A squirrel flaps its tail which was hand drawn and a fish flops out of a lake that was animated with unique frames.
For lunch I reheated some rice with granola bits sprinkled around and soy sauce to add some flavor. It was delicious and ultra cheap! Everyone thought surely I was a vegetarian, but hey man, I just like rice. If only I could give up hotdogs. Hotdogs are my sister's and my downfall. Actually Kate is attempting a vegetarian lifestyle after a tragic rabbit accident. Good luck sister! I failed after a month, but I am attempting to be more concise about where my food comes from.
I also started a new mini project, I am drawing illustrations of tents for a brochure. The illustrations are pretty cute, but they are detailed and tedious to make. It doesn't bother me though, I am being challenged more than I was with the Flash animation. Hopefully soon I will hull in my Mac Pro and launch Maya so I can make some real deal three dimensional graphics. Until then I will be at my sweet desk showing off my Creative Suite skills and eating lots of Newman's Own Oreos.
