The Last Two Monkey Shows

April 25, 2010

Friday and Saturday were the final shows for John Edward Schuster. The Crazy Monkeys' Senior member chose to resign after four years of dedication to the troupe. Hopefully in his eyes, this entire weekend honored his nobility to the troupe.

As Shauvon McGill commonly does: I was folding socks when he knocked on the door and annouced that this weekend was 'Party Weekend '010'. He is pretty bad at calling ahead, but it did not matter. Party Central was prepared to board more people than our lease would ever allow and this weekend was going to live up to its title.

Past Monkeys, Shauvon McGill and Andrew Preston and his lovely wife Kyle all were in attendance at the Greyhouse show on Friday night. The Monkeys packed another little coffee shop despite the thunderstorms of the evening. We tried our hand at 'The New Format', which still doesn't have a name, but we changed the way we edit scenes. Last Tuesday, our friends from MissionImprovable gave us a free workshop that blew our minds. Amoung many valuable techniques, they showed us how to edit a scene without clapping. The silent swipe. Because of the minor change, our set was much more organic and I felt really great our new method.

Silent Swiping worked really well despite the small stage of Greyhouse. I remember running across the stage and tripping over an audience member's foot. It was like we were at The Staples Center because with as much grace as I could muster, I tripped then spun around as I fell and made it look pretty cool. The whole night was silly like that.

By John's request we played Dead Monkeys and he was the straight man, if there is one in that game. They say that when you are really into something, maybe it is adreneline that is working, but you don't really remember the fine details of the event.
